While the duration of full-time retainer wear varies by patient, most individuals wear their retainers full-time for about two years after completing orthodontic treatment. During this period, we'll schedule check-up appointments to monitor your progress, address any concerns, and ensure your retainer fits comfortably.We provide two types of retainers to meet the unique needs of our patients: Essix retainers and Hawley retainers. Our team will recommend the most suitable retainer option based on your specific needs and preferences.
Essix retainers are transparent, removable appliances that fit over the entire arch of teeth. Similar to Invisalign trays, Essix retainers have no wires, making them a comfortable and discreet option. They're also inexpensive and can be used for other dental treatments.
Hawley retainers are one of the most common types, made from a combination of metal wires and sturdy acrylic. These custom-made retainers fit snugly in the roof of your mouth, with wires and acrylic framing keeping your teeth in perfect position. The acrylic can be personalized with a variety of colors and patterns, allowing you to add a personal touch.
